HireTag RFID Asset Tracking System
HireTag is an ingenious radio tag system which provides a quick and easy process to check in and check out your equipment by simply carrying or pushing it through the HireTag Arch Structure.
As your equipment passes through the arch, hundreds of unique radio signals are simultaneously read by the HireTag Arch, which then transmits that information to the HireTrack Rental Management Software.

The HireTag system is made up of two parts:
- The HireTag, available in several configurations designed to attach to your equipment in the same way that a barcode might be attached.
- The HireTag Arch Structure, which reads the information stored on the tags as the equipment is passed through.
The HireTag
The HireTag uses a proprietary modified form of a standard RFID tag, which has been specifically designed for use in the production rental industries. In the past, the cost of these tags was prohibitive; however a key component of Navigator Systems plan was to keep the costs in a range that is affordable for most companies.
Although RFID has been available for several years, their use was designed for other industries and were read reliably only 60% to 80% of the time in the adverse circumstances that are common in the production rental industry.
Any equipment containing metal such as trussing or speakers subjected the tags to conditions that would cancel their signal capacity. In comparison, the Navigator Systems HireTag has achieved accurate read rates of up to 99.99% in these difficult conditions. Additionally the Navigator Systems HireTag cost less than a twentieth the price of standard active RFID tag.
HireTags are available in a number of formats which include:
- A Cable Tag
Available in a number of sizes which can be retrofitted to your existing cables without having to remove any connectors. The cable HireTag has been specifically designed to ensure that it doesn't hinder the movement of a cable when passed though set, staging or truss. - An 'on metal' HireTag
Designed to fit directly on metal equipment such as clamps or rack cases. The 'on-metal' HireTag will fit on a single rack space piece of equipment and is supplied with a high strength adhesive backing. - The 'non-metal' HireTag
Designed to be used on non-metallic pieces of equipment. This HireTag is supplied with high strength permanent adhesive and is available in a range of sizes from 20mm x 40mm. - A Thin HireTag
Thin and flexible, this tag can be attached to round or irregular-shaped equipment. - A Flightcase HireTag
A HireTag is embedded into a regular 'write on' flightcase label. This allows the software to track the flightcase as well as the equipment it contains. But it doesn't make for a very interesting photo!
The HireTag Arch Structure
The standard 2 metre by 2 metre HireTag Arch Structure resembles the metal-detecting systems found at major airports and is also available in custom sizes.
The HireTag Arch Structure has been designed to interface with a supplied touch-screen computer, which is used to control the operations of the system. These functions would include reading equipment out of the warehouse or reading the equipment back into the warehouse.
The user simply selects the desired equipment list and then walks through the arch carrying or pushing the equipment. The HireTag Arch Structure then reads all of the contents of the flightcase and sends that information to the HireTrack software. Using a typical walking pace of about 3km/h, the HireTag arch can read over 200 HireTags per second.
